Emma is a real champster. That’s what we always called our dog when he braved the unthinkable and continued to hobble through life with joy and jubilation. William found Emma in a field, starving and dehydrated, barely alive. She had obviously been abused by her previous owner and was skittish initially, but she soon learned to trust William who took her first to the vet and then home to meet the rest of the family. In Richard Spinney’s The Adventures of Emma, we learn the story of Emma and her new family and the travels she takes in the woods beyond her home.
Richard Spinney’s book, The Adventures of Emma, is a gentle, sweet, endearing story about a rescue dog, one that will certainly capture your heart. Told in the first person narrative, from Emma’s point of view, the story begins with William finding Emma abandoned and barely alive. The vet didn’t think she’d live, but William knew better; he could see the zest for life deep within her eyes and he was determined to nurse her back to health. Emma’s journey continues in her new home, with new dog and human friends and a whole world to explore. She’s also on a big learning journey, one that will teach her the true power of love and how each person, each living creature, shares his/her love in a uniquely different way. With new adventures and new acquaintances, Emma’s life just keeps getting better and better. This story will touch the hearts of animal lovers.
