Marilyn Cruise’s The Black Chapel is the story of a stripper who hates her life and her job. Scarlett hates her life and she hates her job as a stripper. Every night, she dons a mask and becomes Samantha and strips for the viewing pleasure of men. But she has no choice, if she wants to keep her house and wants her father to live. Her father needs chemo to fight cancer and that takes money.
One night, she falls into the lap of a magnetic millionaire, Michael Manning. The chemistry is electrifying, but Scarlett has one rule: she does not date men she meets at the club. The very next day she meets him again in a church and their romance begins. Michael offers Samantha an obscene amount of money to marry him and divorce him when his mother passes away.
Marrying him could mean that she can buy the best available treatment for her father and a life without stripping as a job. But there is a catch; his mother knows that she is a stripper. It was supposed to be a marriage in name, but now she is falling for her husband. Can she keep up with the ruse and divorce him when the time comes? Or will she tell him the truth and hope that he will love her back?
The Black Chapel by Marilyn Cruise is the sweet love story that the reader hopes for. It was a pleasant surprise because I was expecting this novel to be like many other HEA love stories. Yes, the topic is clichéd, but oh, it is so beautiful. I loved Scarlett and Michael’s love, especially how they conquered their trust issues and gave each other a chance to truly love one another without any influence. A perfect novel to read when you are feeling down and desperately need to smile! Five stars!
