The Boy Who Set Fire to the Moon by Harshad Sai is a well-written book that teaches children to appreciate naturally occurring phenomena such as sleep, daytime, and nighttime, among others. Mom takes Tom to the playground on the first day of the summer holiday. However, as the sun began to set, Tom still wanted to play all night and day without his mother telling him to go to sleep or stopping him. That night, he continues to contemplate several questions in his mind. Tom comes up with a plan and sets off on a mission to space to set fire to the moon and end darkness. Soon after, Tom discovers that his decision has consequences that affect his parents and everyone else, and he is determined to rectify his mistake.
I enjoyed reading this book and found many things about it appealing. I commend Harshad for keeping the story simple yet engaging, with a few well-developed characters that children can easily relate to. This book contains positive lessons for children, such as the importance of sleep and the need to make wise decisions, as their choices can impact others. I loved the colorful and visually appealing illustrations by Bobooks, which make the story more engaging for kids. The writing is concise, well-paced, organized, and easy to comprehend. I also loved the reflection question at the end of the story. I found this book entertaining, and it would make an intriguing bedtime story. I recommend The Boy Who Set Fire to the Moon by Harshad Sai to all children and adults who enjoy children's books.
