The Cherry Larrys vs. Poison Berry is a children’s serial action and adventure/fantasy picture book written by Crystal Bussell and illustrated by Art Mawhinney. Berries, fruit, and vegetables all lived happy lives in the little town known as Far Away. Their harmonious existence was shattered, however, through the evil machinations of Dr. Winslow Rachet, a brilliant scientist who had once been the mentor of Barry and Jerry, two brothers. They witnessed first hand how Dr. Ratchet had turned evil and hatched his grand scheme to steal the town’s crown jewels, and were determined to stop him. Would they be able to save Far Away from this crazed scientist?
Crystal Bussell’s The Cherry Larrys vs. Poison Berry is an entertaining and exciting story about two brothers who become superheroes in their efforts to stop the poison berry known as Dr. Rachet. Bussell’s story will keep young readers on the edge of their seats as they follow the non-stop action in this decidedly different children’s picture book. Art Mawhinney’s illustrations are brilliant; each panel is boldly and brightly colored and follows the town-saving heroes as they battle the forces of evil. Caregivers should note the appendix titled Vocabulary Words, which introduces new words and offers kids a chance to use and make those words their own. They should also take notice that this is a serial story that includes a cliffhanger ending. The Cherry Larrys vs. Poison Berry is recommended.
