The Clockwork Mechanical (Mechanical Book 1) is a short fantasy by Peter Stone. Brad Milner wakes up in a space station with memory loss. An orb tells him that he was sent to space to defeat The Mechanical, which intends to destroy Europe in exactly one hour. The Mechanical is a beastly lobster-shaped contraption that chases Brad around the station, trying to stop him from locating the field generator’s force field, which will prevent the monster from carrying out its plan. Brad meets Megan, who says she’s his classmate sent from Earth to assist him. However, Megan behaves a bit weird and is too talkative, which annoys Brad. He also encounters mechanical creatures like butterflies and a spider, and does not know if they can be trusted to help him, although they appear friendly.
Peter Stone has written a lovely book about a space adventure that children will find fun to read. The Clockwork Mechanical (Mechanical Book 1) shows the bravery of its main character who, despite having memory loss and no particular defensive skills, is willing to do his best to save millions of people from doom. I like the descriptive story and believe the author is quite imaginative as seen with his mechanical creatures. The book has a beautifully illustrated cover. Peter Stone has written remarkably well to engage his young audience. They will enjoy the story, which has a great beginning to make them curious to read more. I also think the conclusion is great too.
