The Complete Teacher: Thought-Provoking Ideas for Balanced and Meaningful Teaching by Greg Noyes is a book written by a teacher for teachers. It covers more than 100 topics related to teaching; no wonder the title of the book is The Complete Teacher. The topics range from the first “It’s More Than a Paycheck: Recognizing the Awesomeness That Is the Teacher” to the last, “The Send-Off: This Is the Greatest Profession on Earth”. Clearly, the book is written by somebody who loves the teaching profession, and that is Greg Noyes. The book covers bread and butter topics, such as “What Goes into a Lesson? The Ideal Recipe”. It also covers more innovative topics, such as “The Art of the Hook”, and more challenging topics, such as “Religion and Politics Without Leading to Trouble”. In fact, there are seven recurring themes in the book: (1) assessment, (2) balance, (3) connections, (4) leadership, (5) management, (6) professionalism, and (7) teaching. The book ends with a list of references.

Undoubtedly, the world needs good teachers more than ever as it faces increasingly complicated issues that cannot be solved easily. The Complete Teacher by Greg Noyes comes out at exactly the right time. Even in the teaching profession, one faces the challenges of online teaching, and many of the techniques suggested in the book are applicable too. Under each topic, the narrative starts with one or two meaningful quotations; I really like that. It then elaborates on the topic itself, which is informative. Then, at the end of each topic, there is the “Action Steps” section, which makes the book really practical. A good book for those who aspire to be better teachers!
