The Draycox Awakens by Jonathan Minott is an antihero graphic novel for young adults. Michael has lived a hard life. An orphan who has moved from foster home to foster home, Michael has the added burden of being bullied at school. His parents, Martha and Keith, struggle to make time for Michael, leaving him to deal with his problems alone. But Michael's life turns upside down when he sees a shooting star, and upon investigating further, he inadvertently is bonded to an otherworldly substance leaking from a mysterious dragon-like egg. Michael acquires supernatural abilities that he vows to use to save the defenseless from the bullies and thugs of the world. But soon, he finds himself fueled by revenge that threatens to consume his identity. Can Michael stop himself from destroying everything and everyone?
If you're a fan of comic book stories or graphic novels featuring antiheroes as the main protagonist, you will love The Draycox Awakens. With a captivating plot perfectly complemented by some brilliantly drawn artwork, author Jonathan Minott tells a compelling antihero story bound to entertain comic book or Japanese manga lovers. Michael is the protagonist you don't know if you love or hate. His tragic backstory makes him sympathetic, but his later actions make him hard to cheer for. Michael's inner turmoil and conflict create delicious drama to consume as a reader. Overall, a fantastic antihero origin story that promises to be a riveting saga.
