The Fallen by E. Bacon is the second book that follows The Flesh in the Chronicle of Temptation. Prepare yourself for a nail-biting climax and be assured that you will be left windswept from this powerful and wonderful story. The book begins with Alina still missing; Jordon has taken it upon himself to get her back as the police are proving to be of no help. With all of my assumptions from the first novel, it is fair to say I had formed several theories of how this would play out, yet neither one of them was remotely close. The author has touched on a subject that is rarely discussed and this made the whole thing unique and bold in my opinion.

E. Bacon has surpassed the imagination with this outstanding novel entitled The Fallen. What can I say other than it is an incredible end to a mesmerizing novel. The book is mellow in places, but for the most part it is full of suspense and thrills. The complex story travels in various unsuspected directions and, as a reader, you cannot stop once you have begun. This has to be one of the most intriguing plots that I have ever read, with hidden twists and depths incorporated, which in turn gives the novel almost a third dimension. E. Bacon is definitely a bright and upcoming star in the making and I will be looking out for more work by this extraordinary author. I would recommend this book to all and I assure you that you will not be disappointed.

E. Bacon takes you on bizarre ride through the paranormal in the sequel to The Flesh. The Fallen is the continuing story of Alina Bacca. When Alina disappears, her boyfriend, Jordan, is relentless in his search. Jordan’s level of despair and panic increases with each day she remains missing. After days of gathering information from various sources, following his gut, Jordan finds Alina near death. With friends and family gathered around her in the hospital, Alina recovers. Although physically restored, Alina is trapped within the shell of her former self. She is haunted by unexplained supernatural episodes with no recollection of what happened. “The line between reality and fallacy has become so blurred. I can no longer rely upon my ability to decipher between the two.” Who or what has control of Alina Bacca? Seeking help from every avenue, Alina’s memory gradually returns, exposing the sinister evil plot against her. Once you enter this dimension of darkness, can you ever escape? With faith, hope and love, Alina and Jordan fight against the power of their evil foe to the end.

E. Bacon writes with pulsing, unnerving speed to unravel the horrific plot in The Fallen. As a reader, I found myself loathing the fragility of the main character as she fights against the unearthly forces that invade her character. Yet contrarily, I was caught up in the strength of her purity of faith. All of this twisted emotion makes for an outstanding thriller. The Fallen portrays its characters with detailed and panoramic dimensions, allowing the reader to feel, hear and see their experiences and emotions. E. Bacon plunges you into the supernatural spiritual realm, revealing the diabolical nature of the evil that resides there. Fortunately, The Fallen doesn’t dwell on the aspects of evil, but instead focuses on the unrelenting faith to fight against it. The inclusion of scripture was a necessary and desirable addition, giving the narrative depth. The action of the plot is high paced; therefore it unravels quickly. But beware, you maybe blindsided by the turn of events. So hold on tight! The Fallen is a ride full of extreme language, emotions and actions in the fight against evil. The resolution allows you to catch your breath and breathe in deeply ... hopefully making it a worthy ending.

The Fallen begins with a missing Alina. With her room giving signs that perhaps she didn’t leave of her own free will, her boyfriend Jordan and close friend Peewee are desperate to find out what happened to her and find her safe. Her brother Shane doesn’t seem to be as worried as he should, considering her recent bouts of sleepwalking and other problems, which in itself is quite odd and foreshadows events to come. When signs begin to point toward Shane’s best friend and Alina’s ex-lover Galen, Jordan suspects the worst of the partying pretty boy. E. Bacon uses the same sedate tone in The Fallen as was used in The Flesh, offering a sobering look at mental illness, depression, religion and grief. A trip to a local Catholic priest reveals that Alina may be facing something much more dangerous than mental illness and residual grief, but Jordan still believes Galen is the link to finding his missing girlfriend.

Since The Fallen is heavy on the religious side, given Alina’s area of study, the development of the story comes as no surprise. But what is surprising is how the matter is dealt with. It doesn’t resemble a horror film or any other typical religious dramas; instead it follows a unique path of simply finding out what happened and dealing with the situation. Since Alina is truly devout, the reader is constantly wondering if this is happening or if these are psychological manifestations of her own making intertwining with her theological readings. As the picture becomes clearer, E. Bacon does a fantastic job of increasing the tension and suspense without overly dramatic ploys. Regardless of your religious views or lack thereof, The Fallen will leave you riveted and questioning what lies beneath the surface of just about everyone you come in contact with regularly.
