The Garden of Forgotten Dreams by Avalon Dane is an empowering novel about a young mother who finds her voice and works towards her dreams. After an exhilarating romance, Kaitlyn Collins settles down with Matt, the man of her dreams as she thought of him then. With Matt dedicating all his time to his work and friends, Kaitlyn is left to take care of their lovely children by herself, which leaves her unsure of whether she is willing to remain married to him. In addition, she has suffered Matt’s verbal assaults while neglecting her own dreams, which adds to her doubt. In a perplexing twist in her life, Kaitlyn meets wonderful people who encourage her to pursue her dreams. Among them is a mysterious stranger who will change her life.
The Garden of Forgotten Dreams is an amazing novel that sensitively tackles topics such as domestic violence and low self-esteem. Through Kaitlyn, the work shows the complexities of an abusive marriage and the feelings of the victim. Kaitlyn is an amazing main character. Though doubtful of herself at first, she later takes steps to attain her goals. I loved that the novel is also centered on a few characters which makes it easy to follow. The antagonists are also well developed. Matt is manipulative, violent, and reckless and is an obstacle to Kaitlyn’s success. The tone of the novel is uplifting. Kaitlyn is surrounded by wonderful people and has a great childhood with women who act as great role models for her. The Garden of Forgotten Dreams by Avalon Dane is a moving novel that contains life-changing lessons.
