The Hunt for Snow by S.E. Babin really takes fairy tales to a whole new level. The main character, Snow (yes, that Snow) is a private investigator and all-round fighter who was forced to leave the Enchanted Forest due to her evil stepmother, Naomi. Living on Earth with her best friends, Cindi and Belle, she is formally invited to the Enchanted Forest’s version of a decennial family reunion and conference. While she is debating whether or not to attend, the Huntsman, who is under the Naomi's control, warns Snow that he will be forced to kill her. Upon their deciding to attend the conference, the book follows Cindi, Belle, and Snow as they transverse the politics surrounding the Enchanted Forest. Snow realizes that the only future is for her to return to the Enchanted Forest and reclaim what is rightfully hers. However, Naomi and the Huntsman are not going agree to the power change without a fight.
S.E. Babin created a great series with The Hunt for Snow. The author takes fairy tales that everyone knows and loves to another level and creates a whole new personality for all the main characters, as well as Little Red Riding Hood and even Peter Pan. I was hesitant at first due to the fame of these age-old stories; I was not only pleasantly surprised but really enthralled by this book. There is everything that one would want from a book; a good guy, a bad guy, romance, and quips. The cover is very pleasing and sets the stage for the book. The prose, plot, and character development all move towards this book being a solid five star. I look forward to the rest of the series.
