The Inconvenient Unraveling of Gemma Sinclair by Meg Myers Morgan centers on Gemma Sinclair, a married mother of two. Gemma can’t catch a break. Having given birth a few days ago, she can’t shake this insurmountable feeling of pressure. However, she’s not entirely sure where these feelings stem from. What’s more, everything about this birth feels different; Gemma can’t seem to show Calvin the same love she showed to her firstborn, Bo. But, having been raised by avoidant parents herself, Gemma feels it’s better to shove everything under the rug. It’s when her troubled brother comes to visit that everything starts unraveling. Sometimes past secrets can weigh heavily on those keeping them, and Gemma knows that she needs to open those floodgates if she’s ever going to live a normal and happy life.

With witty dialogue and a controversial subject, The Inconvenient Unraveling of Gemma Sinclair evokes a swirling mix of emotions. Postnatal Depression is nothing to be ashamed of, and I love how open and honest Meg Myers Morgan is about the topic. So many people need to be educated on what exactly Postnatal Depression is and how it can be treated. Avoidance is another topic people tend to ignore, and I like how Meg highlights this. I admired Gemma and Anthony’s relationship very much; they work well together and genuinely love each other. I also enjoyed the plot and the even pace, as it gave me a chance to understand the reasoning behind some of the families’ decisions. I highly recommend this book to new mothers who feel overwhelmed and those who want to learn about maintaining a healthy relationship. The Inconvenient Unraveling of Gemma Sinclair is an educational read.
