The Kids’ Book of Worries by Catherine and Jenny Stephenson addresses children’s worries with compassion and understanding. A multitude of ideas and easy-to-implement practices are provided to ease anxiety and calm day-to-day worries. Young readers are encouraged to recognize different emotional states while being assured that feelings are natural and experienced by everyone, young and old alike. Children will learn simple breathing exercises to immediately help with the unease that can accompany worry and anxiety. Other helpful tools offered include creating a worry jar, discussing feelings with a trusted adult, and healthy movement. Children will discover that there are many methods available to help them feel better when experiencing anxiety and during times of worry.
The Kids’ Book of Worries is an amazing resource for helping parents, teachers, and caregivers in teaching children about emotions and feelings. Children will be engaged as they learn many beneficial ways to handle stress and worry. Detailed and expressive illustrations by Hiruni Kariyawasam convey the overarching positive message of this helpful book. Young readers will easily relate to seeing children just like them experiencing doubt or fear and will see how these supportive practices can be put into action. I think it will greatly help children to know that feelings of worry or anxiety are normal and experienced by everyone from time to time. The creative ideas and exercises shared provide many options for children to learn what may work best for them. This uplifting and informative book will be a valuable addition to any library!
