In The Knight Before Chaos by Tierney James, Chase and Tessa are partners in a rather secret organization, Enigma. When Tessa has to pick up her parents from the airport on Christmas Eve, she somehow convinces Chase to babysit her three children. The comedy and the drama begin with Chase and the kids as they try to stop a group of burglars from robbing empty homes in the neighborhood and it becomes necessary for Chase to protect the kids and Tessa’s home as well. Meanwhile, Tessa is having her own problems at the airport; her parents' plane has been delayed due to a snowstorm and Tessa spots Honey, an assassin from her past. Tessa and Honey are forced to work together, fighting off bad guys, stealing a plow, and trying to stay alive to get to Tessa’s house to protect her kids from the hitman who has been hired to kill Chase.
The Knight Before Chaos by Tierney James is a cross between Home Alone, Get Smart, a spy movie and a slapstick comedy. This is a hard book to put in any one genre but it is easy to read and enjoy. I found myself laughing, rooting for the kids, and hoping that Chase and Tess would have a happy ending. There are several books in the Enigma series and though this one stood alone, I would like to start at book one and follow Tessa and Chase from the beginning. The Knight Before Chaos is a Christmas story like no other and a good read.
