The Legacy of Old Gran Parks is a work of fiction in the thriller, suspense, and horror subgenres. It is intended for the adult reading audience, contains some scenes of peril and graphic violence, and was penned by author Isobel Blackthorn. In this truly chilling story set in the 1980s, we find ourselves in Southern Australia with four fascinating female protagonists. But what does a hunter, a fisherwoman, a young backpacker, and a stranded middle-aged passer-by have in common? They will all fall into the deadly path of a restless spirit seeking to cause havoc at the sinister Old Gran Parks, and not all of them may survive the experience.

I’m a huge fan of horror novels and thriller tales, and this is a novel that walks the fine line between both extremely well. The prose was never gory just for gore’s sake, but there were some very cinematically grisly moments that served to heighten tension, and – like all the best chiller fiction – the most terrifying moments are in anticipation of the reader’s imagination. Author Isobel Blackthorn certainly knows how to build tension through the different viewpoints and experiences of her narrators, and she makes readers truly care for each of these unique women and root for their survival as the plot events take increasingly darker twists and turns. Overall, The Legacy of Old Gran Parks delivers everything it promises, and I would highly recommend it to fellow fans of well-penned, suspenseful horror mystery tales. Let the legend come to life and give you nightmares!

The Legacy of Old Gran Parks is a dark thriller by Isobel Blackthorn. Miriam was on her way to a new life, away from all the trauma of her previous one, when her car broke down near the town of Cann River. There she found out that it would be a while before her car was fixed, and so she had no choice but to settle in Cann River. The more time Miriam spent in the town, however, the more she realized something was wrong with the place. She couldn’t quite put her finger on what exactly but she knew something was off. Miriam tried to keep to herself and avoid the eccentrics of Cann River, but once she met Pearl and Frankie, her view of the place changed ever so slightly. Little did she know that she had entangled herself with some very dangerous women.

The Legacy of Old Gran Parks was a book I enjoyed reading as the characters and town of Cann River had a generous amount of mystique to them, and getting to know more about the intriguing yet odd town was a nice experience and full of surprises. I loved how each of the characters had their own interesting backstories and they also had some curiosity-piquing secrets to boot as well. Isobel Blackthorn's characters were by far one of the most interesting bunch I've come across. Even secondary characters caught my attention and, overall, the entire cast was just perfect! The unique situation of each of the main characters was also a nice touch as this kept me engaged and constantly wanting to know what would happen next. Be it Frankie and her intruder or Pearl and the suspicious man next door, each character's arc kept me wanting more and the pacing was just right as well. The secrets of the town and characters, coupled with the tension that some scenes had, just made me fall in love with this book early on. I recommend this incredible book to readers that enjoy dark thrillers.

The Legacy of Old Gran Parks by Isobel Blackthorn is a story set in a small Australian town with a dark history. Told from the perspectives of four different women who either live or come to the town, their stories intertwine as they deal with some hateful men. Miriam, Pearl, Emily, and Frankie face difficult decisions, but they are all strong women who are not going to be pushed around. Hanging over them is the legacy of a woman who murdered her abusive husband thirty years prior. Is her ghost driving their actions? Or have they simply been pushed to their limits?

Isobel Blackthorn has written an interesting and enjoyable tale with The Legacy of Old Gran Parks. The different narratives work well together and the story flows nicely. Each woman is well developed with their own unique backstory. The author has painted a vivid picture of the town and the surrounding areas and it really brought it to life. I like how the past and present were interwoven and how these women were driven to extremes, while still being relatable. You find yourself rooting for them even with what they end up doing. There is some gore in the story, but it works with the plot and isn't just there for the sake of it. I think that thriller and horror fans would enjoy this book. With that being said, there is some levity too which really made the story stand out amongst similar books. I would definitely recommend it.
