Just as fast as she had shown up in his life, she had disappeared the same way. Now an author, the former NYPD detective PJ Bones had met the young and charming Clara Knox at his book signing event at a Barnes and Noble store in New York. Bones had instantly fallen head over heels for Clara. The two had then spent the following days lost in romantic bliss in Bones’ apartment, only for Bones to wake up one morning to a quiet apartment. After five days of passionate lovemaking, Clara was gone. However, Clara had earlier told Bones about a harrowing experience that had almost cost her life, leaving her physically and emotionally scarred. Clara’s perpetrator had never been apprehended. Driven by love, Bones is determined to find Clara’s attacker and get justice. With a killer psychopath on the loose, will there be more victims? Get yourself Paul Thaler’s The Maddening to know more.
Paul Thaler had me hooked on this gripping read, flipping through page after page. If you love psychological thriller novels laced with a touch of romance, mystery, and horror, The Maddening is a must-read for you. Thaler hatches a super intriguing plot, featuring ingenious plot twists and an exciting cast. His vivid depictions of scenes made reading the book feel like I was right there in the middle of all the action, helplessly watching every movement. Clara is young, innocent, gorgeous, and adorable and is trying to find answers to the many questions in her head. The chemistry between Bones and Clara was so palpable, I could not blame the old Bones for falling for a girl half his age. Bones on the other hand is a resentful, bitter, and sad victim of two divorces, but a steady and genius detective. I loved The Maddening; it is a magnificent piece of work. I can’t wait to read Thaler’s next amazing work.
