The McCarron's Destiny: Charlie's Story is the sixth installment of The McCarron's Destiny series by Sharon K. Middleton. Born to a time-traveling family in 1781, twenty-one-year-old Charles Ranscome Hobbs has spent most of his life living in the 21st century. But when he finds himself duty-bound to assume his responsibilities as the Duke of Ranscome and the Earl of Spring Haven, he must travel to early 19th-century Great Britain to fulfill his destiny. Trailing him to Ireland is the love of his life, Kelly Nguyen, a second-generation Vietnamese American who refuses her father's wishes to marry her off to a Vietnamese young man and chases after Charles to the past. Shocked by the casual display of racism in the 19th century, Kelly takes things in her stride and reunites with Charles. Meanwhile, Charles prepares to duel a heinous general.
Filled with romance, drama, and charm, The McCarron's Destiny: Charlie's Story is an engaging time-traveling tale that readers will find plenty to enjoy. Author Sharon K. Middleton builds a sprawling world full of sassy aunts, beautiful noblewomen, chivalrous knights, and devious generals to immerse yourselves in. The early 19th-century setting feels realistic and lived-in, and I found the description of the English aristocratic lifestyle authentic and believable. The characters are well-developed, with distinct personas and idiosyncrasies that charm their way into your heart. I thoroughly enjoyed the relationship between Charles and Kelly, as well as the burgeoning romance between Lord Winston and Lady Annabelle. If you're a fan of historical fiction romance or time-traveling stories, I suggest The McCarron's Destiny: Charlie's Story.
