The Order of the Key by Justine Manzano is a young adult urban fantasy novel. Jacklyn Madison's life turns upside down when inter-dimensional creatures known as Gorvhans attack her out of nowhere. She finds herself rescued by members of a group led by a young man named Kyp, from whom she learns that her parents belonged to the Order, an organization responsible for protecting citizens from creatures from the realm of the Dusk. As she learns to control her dormant powers, Jacklyn starts a burgeoning relationship with Kyp. But things are not as they seem as Jacklyn discovers blatant distrust and malice amongst the members of the Order. Kyp's mother, Lavinia, hatches her own plans that threaten the sanctity of the organization. Jacklyn must now do everything to survive and protect her loved ones.

Fans of comic books and young adult superhero franchises should rejoice for The Order of the Key seems set to satisfy all of their appetites. Author Justine Manzano's fast-paced urban fantasy novel resembles the likes of X-Men and entertains you from start to finish. Complemented by a uniquely creative world filled with romance, politics, drama, and action, the plot keeps you hooked throughout the pages. The characters are well-developed, and every single one of them adds a distinct dynamic to the cast, making the narrative thoroughly compelling. I particularly enjoyed the back-and-forth between Jacklyn and the rest of the members of the Order. If you're a fan of young adult urban fantasy books, definitely check out The Order of the Key.
