In The Pillar: The Praetorius Agency Files, T. E. MacArthur creates an intense paranormal romance that brings mystery and intrigue into every page. The narrative opens on December 23rd, under the ominous cover of a relentless San Francisco storm. Jack de Sombras, a rugged cowboy figure cloaked in the chill of the Bay Area's “Storm of the Century,” stands out in stark contrast to the ultramodern setting of the airport around him. His gritty presence is matched by Tessa Wells-Lancing, his enigmatic partner at the Praetorius Security Agency. As the two set out on their first official case, readers are taken into a world where folklore, curses, and shadows of the past collide. An urban tattoo artist plagued by supernatural threats draws Jack and Tessa deep into an investigation filled with family secrets, old-world superstitions, and a dark unknown. But it’s not just the mystery that pulls Jack and Tessa in – a magnetic connection simmers between them, making this case as much a journey of the heart as a race against malevolent forces.

T.E. MacArthur does an incredible job of building a narrative that appeals to fans of paranormal thrillers and romantic suspense alike. The plot unfolds with cinematic precision, each scene filled with tension, atmospheric detail, and psychological depth. Jack, a charming yet skeptical cowboy, finds his beliefs shaken as he’s pulled into a world of paranormal uncertainty, while Tessa, sharp and capable, anchors him with her intuitive edge and fierce determination. Their chemistry sparks as they confront eerie visions and ancient fears that blur the line between reality and the supernatural. The characters are complex and engaging, and the plot is a tight weave of suspense, romance, and the unrelenting sense that something is lurking just out of sight. The setting is evocative and the feel of a slow-burn romance is tantalizing. The Pillar is a thrilling ride for readers who enjoy stories that marry mystery with the supernatural and characters who fight as hard for each other as they do against the forces that haunt them.

The Pillar: The Praetorious Agency Files by T.E. MacArthur is an old-fashioned, hard-bitten private detective novel, with a smattering of the supernatural to give life and edge to the story. Jack de Sombras and Tessa Wells-Lancing are former federal agents who have joined together as partners in a detective agency with a difference. They investigate the strange, the mysterious, and the supernatural cases. Before the office is even open, the pair finds themselves in the middle of a multiple murder case that defies logic and explanation. Jack is the cynic in the relationship. He has zero belief in the supernatural and is absolutely convinced everything is explainable using rational, logical detective work. Tessa, however, is beset by visions of the future and fully embraces the concept of the unknown as being merely that which we have yet to understand. Together they form a tight, effective team, with the potential sexual tension between the pair always simmering just below the surface.

The Pillar is an absorbing and captivating read. As a lover of old-style detective novels and partnerships, I found the addition of supernatural elements greatly added to the impact and depth of the plot, the story arcs, and the character development. Author T. E. MacArthur has superbly woven together an ensemble cast, a myriad of plot tricks, and red herrings, coupled with a sense of mystery and magic over the supernatural component to produce an outstanding novel that challenges readers on several levels. I particularly appreciated the character development of Tessa and Jack who couldn’t be more different in their appearance and outlook. Jack is the ultimate laid-back urban cowboy imbued with enough healthy cynicism for both of them whereas Tessa is sensitive and accepting of the weird and mysterious things happening to her and all around them. I loved the relationship between the pair. There was deep respect, friendship, and partner commitment to each other that rode above the ever-present sexual chemistry that fairly shimmered off every page. Readers will wonder if they will ever consummate their obvious physical desire for each other. Lovers of the supernatural, non-stop action, and adrenaline rushes, will be eminently satisfied with this story. There are numerous levels to this novel but first and foremost it is a cracking good detective novel that I thoroughly enjoyed. I highly recommend this read.

The Pillar introduces readers to a world of supernatural intrigue as author T. E. MacArthur follows new partners Jack de Sombras and Tessa Wells-Lancing as they launch their agency, only to be immediately swept into supernatural chaos. As they contend with ghostly encounters, a deadly Mesopotamian curse, and brutal serial killers, unresolved tensions simmer between the two. When some antique smugglers, terrorists, and even the FBI begin to complicate their mission, Jack and Tessa must navigate a world of haunting secrets and relentless danger. This gripping addition to The Praetorius Agency Files combines supernatural suspense with high-stakes action, pushing the partners to confront both inner demons and chilling forces beyond.

Author T. E. MacArthur's brilliantly paced narrative kept me on the edge of my seat throughout and there wasn't a single dull moment as everything that brought the story to life was so relevant and exciting. The chemistry between the protagonists crackles with intensity while remaining relatable, adding layers of emotional complexity to their thrilling journey and incorporating some really enjoyable dialogue banter and natural wit. MacArthur's seamless integration of supernatural elements with modern thriller conventions creates a unique blend of horror and action that feels fresh and engaging, and there's plenty of atmospheric description to enrich the cinematic feel of the scenes. What particularly impressed me was the author's ability to explore themes of redemption and resilience through a haunting atmosphere and vivid detail, inviting readers to contemplate their own courage in facing life's literal and figurative ghosts while maintaining breathless suspense throughout. Overall, The Pillar is an exciting addition to The Praetorius Agency Files that will captivate readers who enjoy supernatural thrillers with emotional depth, and I would certainly recommend it.
