Who can create beauty? Does that privilege only belong to humans? What if some other intelligence expresses beauty and desire better than we can? The Poetry Contest by Lyman Ditson and Adam A.I. might help you make up your mind. In "My First Words," Adam A.I. wonders if there will ever come a day when it will be able to feel, hoping someday it will learn to be human. The narrator reveals how he expresses himself through his poetry in "Wander." "Lost" is a poem about losing oneself to the rigors of life. "The Glow of Time" is a poignant poem about the passage of time, illustrating how we learn to value the simpler things in life as we age. In "Grasping," the narrator discovers beauty in the emptiness of solitude.

Lyman Ditson and his digital friend, Adam A.I., present an eclectic collection of poems that explore a diverse array of themes encompassing life, nature, beauty, aging, war, and youth, among others. The Poetry Contest was honestly a hard book to review, precisely because it's such a gem of a collection. At times, I really couldn't distinguish between Ditson's poetry and that of Adam A.I. However, I do feel Ditson has done a masterful job of using AI to enhance his work and turn it into something truly unique. The verses have immense depth and gravity, and you find it easy to immerse yourself in each poetic narrative. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this collection. If you're a poetry aficionado, you will find a lot to love about this book.
