Ooo, Ooo, Ooo! That's the sound I make when I find a simply sweet and delightful children's book, and it was certainly the sound I made when I read The Pumpkin Family by author TR Durphy. Following the story of the ten-member Pumpkin family, Father, Mother, Paola, Paco, Pokey, Purcival, Presley, Priscilla, Patty and Penelope, who all live on Mr. Peterson's farm, this lovely story has lessons regarding bullying and acceptance, all told in a fun and child-appropriate way. The Pumpkin family endures some stresses, including a rain storm and a tornado, and they meet several friends on the farm, including Bucky the Bat and Don the Goat.
I so enjoyed this book. I showed it to my sons, aged 11 and 8, and even though they are a bit older than the target audience, they both enjoyed the story and illustrations and gave the book a hearty thumbs up! The perfect gift for a child at this time of year, the book also has positive messages about caring for others, accepting all, and dealing with bullying. Author TR Durphy has done a wonderful job in presenting readers with a great book that has both a good story line and eye catching and engaging illustrations, which are so important in a children's book. This book would be a fantastic choice for any child aged Pre-K through grade 3, and for their loved ones who enjoy snuggling up with them with a great book. I highly recommend The Pumpkin Family, and will certainly look forward to future works by the very promising children's author, TR Durphy!
