The shocking murder of an old time school teacher from a one-room school house in Delaware is just the start of the amazing adventures in The Rhyme of Sailors Cove by Lee and Sheila Berkes. When local police chief Sailor Warren shares information with the detective from Philadelphia investigating the murder, some odd coincidences lead to clues that span centuries and the globe. It all starts with a simple jump-rope rhyme that the school teacher’s husband taught to three young girls. The information contained in that rhyme refers to ancient treasure, secret societies, and even the Nazis during World War II. Sailor Warren, his long-time friend Tess Withers, and the three now grown girls embark on a mission to lure the murderer to the long lost treasure where he can be called to justice. From the small Delaware town to the Vosges mountains in France, the group tracks down the last members of a group sworn to protect a vast fortune. Will they be able to save these people and their secret from a madman?

Thoroughly entertaining with wonderful characters, lively action, and plenty of amazing historical background, husband and wife team Lee and Sheila Berkes’ novel, The Rhyme of Sailors Cove, is a must-read for every mystery lover. Plenty of humor offsets the seedier elements of crime as the diverse characters come together to solve the mystery that is nothing short of epic. Wonderful descriptions help you feel that you are right there in the action, and the depth of historical background ties together many historical and contemporary legends of treasure, as well as the Nazi quest for power. Terrific story! I loved the characters, the action, the settings and the wonderful historical references. Well written and hard to put down, this book is a great beginning to what I only hope will be an ongoing series.

A murder in Philadelphia and a small, now-closed school in the charming little town of Sailors Cove, Delaware (a hundred miles south of Philadelphia) are seemingly connected. Sailor Warren, the police chief of the small town, and his love interest, Tess Withers, are equipped to solve this challenging mystery. The plot is convoluted, the characters are complex, and the intrigue is mesmerizing. Trevor Raymond, a malevolent attorney; Danielle Minard, a museum curator; and Attitude, a motorcyclist, are a sample of the eclectic cast of actors. Add a jump-rope song and a memorable amulet, and the mystery grows even more. The adventure includes historical information, personal motivations both good and evil, and a trip to the Alsace-Lorraine area of France. The Rhyme of Sailors Cove: A Sailor Warren-Tess Withers Mystery Adventure by Lee and Sheila Berkes is a fictional work that entertains and perplexes at the same time.

This work is certainly fast-paced, while including a wealth of interesting information. This is a mystery that is unique, full of enigmas and puzzles. It seems when one puzzle was solved, another emerged within this intricate plot. This is not a simple whodunit; rather, the reader is informed about the murderer rather quickly. The mystery resides in the words of a children’s song, and all the dots must be connected, from times past to current day, in two countries. Lee and Sheila Berkes have written a different kind of mystery. Because the writing style is clear and easy-to-follow, the complicated plot is also easy to understand. When the reader follows all the clues, the reward is worth the effort!
