The Rope that Ties Us is a bilingual picture book that focuses on a mother's bond with her son. Author Jessica S. Scheumann shows that as the child's life progresses, his relationship with his mother is irreplaceable. The Rope that Ties Us shows the growth journey of a young boy from an infant to when he is in school. As he grows up and learns new things, he encounters both good and bad situations. No matter what he faces, he reaches out to his mother for help. His mother would sing a song to help him along the way, and as he pushes forward through life, that song remains in his heart. You'll find both English and Portuguese wording in this story.
The Rope that Ties Us has fantastic illustrations that match the prose well. Jessica S. Scheumann did an excellent job of showing the love between a mother and her child. The Rope that Ties Us is centered on the bond between the mother and child, and how no matter where the boy goes, he'll forever be attached to his mother. I like how Camila de Liz Nunes visually showed the rope connecting the mother and child. I like how Jessica wrote the book in English but also gave readers the Portuguese translation. This will help young book lovers to learn a new language. I enjoyed the ending and the note to caregivers. I like how Jessica stresses how important it is for an adult to show affection and love to their child as violence has become normalized in society.
