Author Biography

A Colorado native, Peg Brantley and her husband make their home southeast of Denver, sharing it over time with the occasional pair of mallard ducks and their babies, snapping turtles, peacocks, assorted other birds, foxes, a deer named Cedric, and a bichon named McKenzie.

With the intent to lend her stories credibility, Peg is a graduate of the Aurora Citizens’ Police Academy, participated in the Writers’ Police Academy, has interviewed crime scene investigators, FBI agents, human trafficking experts, obtained her Concealed Carry Permit, studied diverse topics from arson dogs to Santeria, and hunted down real life locations that show up in her stories.

At this very minute (well, not this very minute) she’s busy turning her standalone books into two separate series because that’s what her readers want.

Peg’s third book, The Sacrifice, was a finalist for two 2014 Colorado literary awards.

It’s all better with friends.

The Sacrifice by Peg Brantley is a thriller full of intrigue and lots of twists and turns. After the murder of his family, including his pregnant wife, in Mexico, Mex Anderson quits his job as a police officer and moves to Colorado to build the dream house he and his wife had been planning. But the beautiful mountains and new location aren’t enough to take away his guilt or ease his severe depression. Out of the blue, Vicente Vega, the head of the drug cartel responsible for the murder of his family, appears at his house with an intriguing offer. Vicente’s daughter is missing, along with her nanny. If Mex agrees to find her, he will give Mex an outrageous sum of money and the names of the individuals behind his family’s murders. To ensure his cooperation, Vicente’s son kidnaps Mex’s sister behind his father’s back.

I really enjoyed this book. The author, Peg Brantley, has done a great job with the characters. The main character, Mex Anderson, has a history as interesting as his name. The secondary characters are also well-developed. Darius Johnson, a journalist and Mex’s good friend, helps Mex follow the trail of the missing girl to the swamps of Louisiana and a group of cult members who may be responsible for the kidnapping of the cartel leader’s daughter. They team up with Cade Le Blanc, a woman with her own tragic past, who specializes in rescuing and deprogramming cult members. Cade proves to be a good match for Mex in the investigation and as a possible romantic interest. The ending of the book was satisfying, but I hope to see Mex and Cade’s story continue in future books.
