The Scavenger Hunter: The Untold Story of a Serial Murderer by P.D. Platt was a book I could not put down, reading it in a day. The reader has the privilege of walking through the entire case step by step with Matt Stallworth, the FBI agent in charge, and his team. When two unrelated bodies are found in two hotel rooms, it is the first clue that a serial killer may be on the loose. As more victims are found, the killer seems to be playing a dangerous game with the FBI, leaving them cryptic clues to the next murder in a small jewelry box. Each clue must be carefully evaluated for its meaning. Hundreds of possible suspects have to be eliminated, interviewed and analyzed before they can find the answers they all are so desperately looking for. The case is difficult and baffling to Matt and his crew as they try to stop the madman, changing each of their lives forever.
I loved reading all of the details and the process and thinking of the FBI team that was involved in finding out the identity of The Scavenger Hunter. I anxiously awaited his final capture to find out who he was and why he was killing innocent people. P.D. Platt has written a brilliant story, allowing the reader to look through the eyes of the FBI. There was very little information on the killer until the unexpected suspenseful ending. The Scavenger Hunter is a must, must, must-read for all fans of crime genre books. I truly believe that The Scavenger Hunter is headed for the top of the bestseller list with all of the potential of being the season’s best crime novel.
