Elizabeth Stevens brings us passion and love in the young adult romance novel The Trouble With Hate is… Leilani Granger and Casper Drake have known each other forever. They live next door to each other, and their fathers are best friends. Casper and Brett, Lani’s brother, are also best friends. After the death of Jonny, the oldest Granger son, the families try to survive the loss. Each member has their own method of coping. Brett spirals out of control with Casper joining him. Lani and Casper are always at each other’s throats. Then, one night, when the walls were down and hearts were opened, they shared something more than just words. After all, they do hate each other, right?

Author Elizabeth Stevens has opened the floodgates and poured every possible emotion into The Trouble With Hate is… Gripping readers from the very beginning, she has set the stage perfectly with likable and relatable characters. What I truly enjoyed the most was the family dynamic and how the two families were so entwined with each other. I also appreciated the support of friends that was present. The passion for dance was also vital. I really enjoyed the descriptions of the various emotions, which brought it all to life. Writing in the first-person from the perspectives of Casper and Leilani, the author made the connections with the characters more personal. Due to its mature content, this book is not suitable for young readers. Elizabeth Stevens is an author with promise and already has other available titles.
