The Truth Circle by Cameron Ayers is a nightmare come true. Six people, all strangers. One Native American guide. Seven days at a nature retreat. What could possibly go wrong? When the strangers wake up after their first night at the retreat, they discover their guide has left them. All alone, in the wilderness, with no way of getting help. Now their retreat has turned into a game of survival. As their true selves emerge, rivalries form, secrets are spilled and now it’s every man for himself. They didn’t factor one thing into the equation – they are not alone. Their presence has awoken an ancient horror and it doesn’t want them there. What started out as a simple retreat from the world has turned into a fight for life as the six men battle it out with each other and with an unseen horror. Can they make it out alive? Will their lives ever be the same again? And what is lurking in the darkness of the forest?
The Truth Circle by Cameron Ayers was a gripping read. It did start a little slowly, but, to be fair, there are lots of characters here, all playing an integral role in the story and we need to know who they are. Once you’ve been introduced to all these characters, the story really kicks off. Not only are we dealing with six very different people, all strong characters with their own stories, but we have the added excitement of an unknown entity that doesn’t want them there. All in all, this is a high-tension story with lots of twists and turns that will keep you on your toes. The plot is smooth, although it was a little over-descriptive in places, and the characters are well-developed throughout, with their stories being drip-fed through the plot. The ending is unexpected, to say the least, and, overall, it was a pretty good story that kept me reading.
