The Uncut Grass by Mark Butler introduces us to Jenny Davis as she finds out that her husband has cheated on her. So she storms out of the house and away from John's life and what she considered comfort. Jenny moves into an apartment in Dallas with her friend Rebekah and starts walking a bit on the wild side. Jenny meets a man named Marco while out in a shady part of town with Rebekah and so begins the slide into a dangerous revelation and love affair.
As a woman who recently found out her husband cheated on her and uprooting my life, I instantly identified with Jenny. While I may not have gone down her road with Marco, I can certainly see why the rebirth and changing of everything you knew is so appealing. Marco is an interesting character; in his own right a criminal, but I would not necessarily call him a bad guy. I like that in this book no one is black and white - everyone is done in shades of gray. Mark Butler has created a compelling story that will drag you in and make you stay with the characters until the final page is read. The story has a good flow to it and makes you feel a gamut of emotions as you work through it. As I read, I wanted to feel an attachment to the story and the characters. I felt at one with Jenny, I wanted to cheer her on as she transformed and remade herself. I may not understand every choice she made, but I can certainly understand why she felt she had to make them. If you want to read a good book that offers insight into revelation, reformation and, of course, love I would highly recommend this read.
