Beka Wueste's The Unsent Letters of Lucy Prior is a literary novel narrated through a series of letters. After Lucy Prior passed away, her brother-in-law, Nate Prior, hired the death administrator, Art Burleson, to correctly distribute her possessions to the members of her family. Art soon discovers stacks of letters Lucy wrote before she passed away. Written over the years, these letters unveil Lucy's deep emotions for various people who influenced and shaped the course of her life. Lucy felt regret for abandoning her high school friend when she needed Lucy most. She had nothing but absolute hatred for her monster of a father, but was immensely grateful to her first date and her elderly neighbors who helped her escape from her abusive home and find her way to college.
The Unsent Letters of Lucy Prior is an engrossing drama full of heart. It follows a woman who found a way to tell her life story and reveal her innermost secrets to her relatives posthumously. Author Beka Wueste weaves an intricate and colorful tapestry of Lucy's life, using an unconventional narrative that invites readers to delve into her most profound feelings and emotions. Lucy's story feels incredibly vivid and authentic, as if it belongs to someone living in the real world. The letters capture all the highs and lows she experienced in her life. I particularly enjoyed the parts featuring Atlacoya, her grandparents, Liam, Timothy, and her extended family members. All in all, this is a captivating read. If you enjoy stories with realism, I can't recommend this book highly enough.
