Numbers may not lie, but the odds definitely don't apply the same way to everyone. While most startups fail, "operational subjective probability" suggests that the only variables for success are your own actions, beliefs, and context. In The Why Not Advantage: How Small Probabilities Create Outsized Outcomes, technologist Sanjay Manandhar offers the tools to help aspiring entrepreneurs redefine their odds and apply probability thinking to their careers and decisions. Starting with what probability really is, the book delves into the importance of critical thinking over market groupthink, as well as the significance of smaller probabilities. Manandhar also takes readers through his bootstrap process for a startup. Set your own compass, always be prepared, try not to let yourself get in the way of your goals, learn from your failures, and use your purpose as a probability multiplier.

To me, this book oozes optimism. Sanjay Manandhar, who beat the odds to become a successful entrepreneur and technologist, insists that, despite the statistics, it is possible for startup founders to find success by backing themselves and using their own unique approach. In this book, Manandhar shares anecdotes from his own life and provides real-world examples of entrepreneurs navigating different challenges in their professional lives. The Why Not Advantage encourages you to trust your instincts. Take chances even when everything else seems devoid of hope. Manandhar's story is truly inspiring. He came from a remote part of the world to achieve his dream of becoming a technologist. I think young startup founders will find a lot to love about this book. Highly recommended.
