A doctor is murdered and an undefeated District Attorney fights to put away his killer in the fascinating crime mystery, The Widow Makes Three by Robert Wyrick. One morning, Dr. Michael Smith and his dog Lady go for their daily run. Later that morning, someone finds Lady's body near Dr. Smith's battered old car and farther up a hill, his corpse is discovered with his face blown away. After the police clear his wife of suspicion, his business partner Dr. Warren is scrutinized and becomes the prime suspect. With all the evidence pointing to Dr. Warren, the District Attorney Sharron Miller starts legal proceedings against him and takes him to trial for murder. While Sharron and her new assistant Robert Tims work to prove Dr. Warren's guilt, an investigator aiming for the reward from the life insurance company is trying to prove the widow committed the murder. With her career riding on the outcome of the trial, Sharron needs to be sure she has got the right culprit. Who killed Dr. Smith? Was it his wife, business partner, or someone else entirely?
Suspenseful and intense, The Widow Makes Three by Robert Wyrick is a riveting psychological thriller. The author weaves an intriguing tale fraught with misdirection and surprise, culminating in an unexpected conclusion. As a Perry Mason fan, I was captivated by the courtroom scenes and caught up in the unfolding drama. Although the introduction to each chapter is distracting, and the story stalls in some places, the shocking outcome makes it worth reading the whole book. Containing graphic violence, sexual situations, and some strong language, it is more suitable for a mature reader. It is an extraordinary book that will thrill those who enjoy novels with the elements of mystery, suspense, and a psychological twist.
