The Wildebeest and a Bunch of Crock and Other Animal Story Poems by Jeffry Glover is a collection of light-hearted and humorous poems that educate and delight children and adults alike. The poems range from being educational to whimsical. The poems include popular animals often talked about, like elephants, lions, giraffes, and ducks, to less popular ones like piranhas, blue marlins, elks, and sloths. The poems are easy to read, rhythmical, entertaining, and even delightfully surprising. This poetry collection can be a great educational resource for children to explore nature and the animal kingdom and develop a newfound appreciation and love for nature. Glover’s love and admiration of nature are apparent, inspiring, charismatic, and infectious.
The Wildebeest and a Bunch of Crock and Other Animal Story Poems by Jeffry Glover is well-written and delightful. The poems reminded me of the wonder and beauty of animals - all the poems were creative, playful, and clever. It was a feel-good experience reading these poems. My favorites were The Swan, the Duck, the Ring, and Mouse Repast. Besides imparting knowledge and a newfound appreciation for animals, Glover also shares a few critical life messages. The key message I took from this book was about how to treat animals with kindness, even the ones we don’t always like having in our homes. This is a heart-warming, original, well-conceived set of poems that reignites the joy and passion people feel for animals and nature.
