In Lukman Clark's The Wind Rose Conspiracy, Brandon Blake is living on inherited money after his parents’ plane vanished over the Timor Sea when a hypnosis session sends him toward a Libyan cave. There, he finds ancient scrolls linked to Hypatia of Alexandria, a philosopher whose lost account points toward a medallion his parents may have been seeking before they disappeared. Brandon believes the object may explain their final journey, but the discovery attracts Julia Campbell, an antiquities specialist who treats the scrolls as property for sale. Clara d’Uccelli, the hypnotherapist who helped Brandon reach the cave, soon vanishes during a later search in Australia. With his family’s past closing in around him, Brandon follows the trail toward a hidden object from the ancient world that may change who controls history itself.
The Wind Rose Conspiracy by Lukman Clark is a really unique metaphysical novel, and the author does an excellent job of pulling readers straight into the story. As a lead, Brandon is easy to like. He is open to pretty much anything and treats the seemingly impossible seriously. He has a mind willing to learn from other traditions. I love Tuti Leli Bulan, a Balinese woman who helps maintain Brandon’s family house in Ubud. Her pencak silat history is a brilliant addition, and her defense of a shrine leans into a quiet strength. The supernatural elements come across organically, with ideas of past lives and things like a dingo’s songline in Australia turning the land itself into a guide. Well written and immersive, readers who enjoy archaeological mysteries, paranormal adventures, and hidden histories will love this book. Very highly recommended.
