Three Deadly Twins is a thrilling criminal mystery novel by David A Thyfault. The criminal component, as the title suggests, is made up of three out of four twins, spearheaded by the feisty and beautiful bombshell Miranda. Miranda finds herself caught in a love triangle between twin brothers Don and Mac as the former tries to kill the latter, all the while suffering the financial plight of trying to care for Mickey, her own disabled twin. As Miranda learns the ways of cons and crime, the town of Palmdale witnesses the birth of teen detective Neal ‘Stump’ Randolph, whose gritty upbringing has already prepared him to enter the insidious world of criminal investigations.

David A Thyfault sets up the origin story of his central detective during this easy to read roller coaster of drama and suspense. While the criminal characters are exactly what you’d expect in this reading genre, Thyfault brings them to life with vivid description and snappy dialogue that make every page entertaining. The truly adult world of sex, violence and criminal intrigue seems like no place for a teenage boy, which makes it all the more endearing to see Stump come into his own and find his unique set of skills within this dark, compelling setting. I’d highly recommend Three Deadly Twins to mystery fans looking for a speedy exciting read, and overall I found the plot to be truly surprising in places, well-conceived and well written. A thrilling, dark caper with twists and turns in all the right places.

There is nothing in the world that Miranda will not do for her twin brother Mickey. Being mentally disabled, he relies on Miranda in every step of life. Their lives take a different turn when Miranda falls in love with Don, a bad boy who is now in prison. Where Miranda cannot imagine life without Mickey, Don wants his twin brother, Mac, dead like yesterday news. Still in prison, Don develops a plan to seduce and take revenge on Mac with the help of Miranda. Once she is successful in seducing Mac, things take a deadly turn. With schemes and decisions that are bound to make things nasty, the three of them run around in a circle that never ends.

This is character development at its best. It doesn’t get any better than this. Every character is drawn to perfection. You will not find anything at fault in this story. Whether it is Stump, Miranda, Mac or Don, each character is unique and has things that put them in the spotlight. The story is tight. The action is always on a roll, so be prepared to read the novel all night because you will not be able to put it down. The pace is fast and the story is so engaging that you will not be able to stop yourself. The presence of the writer can be found on every page and the dry humor was really refreshing. There is nothing more pleasing than a good thriller/suspense. The novel satisfied me and made me happy. I hope there will be another in the series. A decent novel that makes a loud bang when you pick it up! Five stars!
