Thriving in the Modern Workplace: A Gen Z Guide to Success by Giselle Sandy-Phillips looks into how Gen Z, shaped by digital immersion and global awareness, approaches careers, finances, and personal well-being differently from previous generations. The author then jumps forward with actionable strategies for structuring workdays, managing hybrid and remote setups, and staying attentive in a time of constant interruptions. She talks about the value of communication and soft skills alongside technical expertise, while also addressing multiple income streams and side projects. The balance between ambition and mental health is juxtaposed with career planning that's aligned with individual ethos, with the aid of a Personal Development Plan. This and more lay the groundwork in a comprehensive manual full of practical guidance on building sustainable, adaptable, and self-directed professional and personal lives.

Giselle Sandy-Phillips’ Thriving in the Modern Workplace is interesting because it can be used as guidance in two different ways. I am not Gen Z, but have a daughter who is, and I can absolutely see this helping her reboot a career approach, and see an employer reading this to reboot their approach to how they run their business. The beauty of this book is its versatility. The writing is straightforward and accessible, the voice is authoritative and modern, and she addresses things that are relevant to the moment, while still being timeless in basic human nature. I love how she gives a clear perspective on handling conflict, saying that conflict is inevitable, but drama is a choice. I also like her use of SMART objectives in career planning, an acronym I'll leave to readers themselves. Sandy-Phillips balances optimism with realism, showing that Gen Z can shape the workplace through values, communication, and self-awareness, giving readers concrete tools to maneuver through emerging work trends and be informed, motivated, and better prepared.
