Toasted, the first book in the Love Burns Series by Isobel Reed, is a contemporary romance set in the small town of Woodvalley Pines. Libby has just moved into town and almost burns down her kitchen when her toaster catches fire. Hunky firefighter Zach arrives to save the day, and there’s an instant connection between the two characters. Libby is wary of relationships and doesn’t want to accept that there could be a connection. On the other hand, Zach is determined to meet the challenge to win her heart. As they learn to understand each other’s issues, they also break down emotional barriers which could keep them apart. Will Libby be able to face her fears and take a chance on love? Will Zach and Libby be able to keep the newfound flame of their attraction burning strong?

Toasted is a small-town romance that had me smiling throughout the book. Isobel Reed has created a cast of characters who are interesting and whom you’d want to befriend. The narrative focuses on the instant spark between Zach and Libby and is presented from their perspectives but friends like Cat, Rachel, Cody, and Hunter also contribute to the story, adding to the depth and humor in the narrative. There is a wholesome vibe of a small town in how everyone wants to/already knows everyone else’s business. The story kicks off from the very first page with engaging dialogues and sizzling chemistry that jumps off the page. Some of Libby’s dialogues and thoughts had me laughing. The story explores themes of love, friendship, growth, and taking risks. For a quick, heartwarming, and enjoyable read, I’d recommend adding this book to your TBR list.
