Uncle Jack's Outer Banks: The Ultimate Collection is an anthology of essays, letters, and cartoons published by award-winning humor columnist from the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Jack Sandberg, over the course of an illustrious career spanning almost four decades. The book opens with an introduction by author Ray McAllister, who relates Jack's humble beginnings as a college professor in Pittsburgh who moved to the then laid-back town of Nags Head in North Carolina. Through his alter ego "Uncle Jack", Jack began his career as a humor columnist in 1980 with the premier issue of Outer Banks Current, a weekly newspaper in Manteo. As he became somewhat of a local legend in the Outer Banks, he began writing weekly columns for The Outer Banks Sentinal with the advent of the 21st century.
Full of wit, charm, and humor, Uncle Jack's Outer Banks: The Ultimate Collection will make you laugh and warm your heart through slice-of-life stories dipped in sarcasm, irony, satire, and a heavy dose of nostalgia. Every single essay or letter is laced in absurdity but contains an underlying voice that cuts through and makes a clear and concise statement about the relevant topic. From personal anecdotes where he describes his days trying to fish or his troubles using the laptop for the first time to enlightening readers on the Demon Sex to trying to look at the brighter side of ecological disasters, Jack Sandberg has something to say on pretty much everything under the sun. Odds are, you'll have a blast reading it. Highly recommended.
