When a Bully Becomes a Friend: A Shoo Shoo and Teakettle Adventure by Jacqueline E. Hartman is a children's picture book that tells the story of Shoo Shoo, a squirrel, and Teakettle, a wren. They meet in a beautiful garden filled with amazing creatures. One day, Shoo Shoo gives Teakettle a peanut, but before he can eat it, a big blue bird called Bluejay Kay rudely grabs it and takes it for himself. This makes Teakettle sad and shocked when Shoo Shoo informs him that Kay is a bully. However, Shoo Shoo advises his friend to stand up against bullies and injustice. Teakettle is initially afraid, but when a situation arises that requires the three creatures to work together, they join forces and become friends.
When a Bully Becomes a Friend is an inspiring picture book that deals with important themes such as courage, friendship, and standing up to bullying. The conclusion beautifully portrays the transformative power of kindness and empathy, demonstrating the possibility of positive change and friendship even in the most unlikely situations. Jacqueline E. Hartman effectively conveys the messages in language that children can understand and appreciate. This book is the third in the Shoo Shoo and Teakettle Adventure series and offers valuable lessons to young readers while entertaining them. The illustrations are a perfect match for the story and bring the characters and their natural surroundings to life. The warm, soothing colors and intricate details in the artwork add depth and beauty to the narrative. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it to parents who wish to teach their children about friendship, empathy, and bravery.
