The Adventures of Murphy and Me: When a Rescue Dog Finds His Forever Home by Becki A. Jacobson introduces Murphy, a rescue dog whose life changes when Becki welcomes him into her home. Murphy arrives as the new pup in her world, unsure of his place, and then begins to understand Becki through the small rituals of daily life. A walk becomes a sign that he belongs beside her. A game becomes his way of answering her affection. Even his messy habits become part of how Becki learns who he is. Written for young readers, the story follows a rescued dog at the beginning of a new home life, where one person’s kindness may turn a lonely past into a place of his own at last.
In Becki A. Jacobson’s The Adventures of Murphy and Me, rescue dog Murphy is the center of a sunny first reading experience for young children. What makes the book special is its loving attention to rescue and adoption. Murphy is appreciated in home life, so young readers see a sense of belonging they can recognize right away. The writing uses short rhymed couplets with plain diction in a warm first-person voice. Its rhythm suits lap reading since each couplet gives Murphy an action a child can absorb at once during a shared read. At the end, the activity sheet asks children what Murphy taught them about their own future hopes. That prompt teaches recall while giving each reader practice in turning a wish into a chosen answer in words. The illustrations are bright in a contemporary cartoon style, with Murphy’s white fur popping against the beach, the park, and inside his forever home. A lovely pick for dog-loving preschoolers at family reading time.
