When Sarah Flies by Terri Kelley is the story of Sarah is is affected with autism. The topic of the story is the behavior related to autistic children. Autism is a disorder that exists in the society we live in. Autistic children can be around us in our school and other areas. This book helps children understand why certain kids behave differently and how they can understand them better. The author also speaks about the special attention that should be given to these kids and how they should be made to feel welcome in their classrooms and also in society.
I found the book very informative. It is book that every parent, teacher, counselor, administrator, and school staff should read so that they identify these children quickly and give them the required attention. These children meet the daily challenges in their lives with a high degree of grace and they should be treated with respect and love. The character of Sarah is explained to the readers through the eyes of a boy who is her class mate. The illustrations are beautiful, too, and they complement the prose and breathe life into the story, scenes, and characters.
It is an ideal story book for bedtime reading and also for read-aloud sessions. School libraries should have a copy of this book because it can be used by teachers in class rooms. The author, by writing this story, has brought to kids' attention why certain children in their class are different.
