Where the River Runs Red by Howard K. Pollack is a crime thriller centered around Sawyer Greer and her quest to free her brother Chad Greer from a murder charge. Recently hired by the D.A.’s office, Sawyer believes her brother was wrongly accused of murder 15 years ago. She has dedicated her life and career to uncovering the truth by going to law school and seeking a job in the D.A.’s office. After an unsuccessful parole hearing, she meets Mason Walcott, who claims he was at the crime scene. Mason reveals some information not in the police report, spurring Sawyer to actively search for the truth that will set her brother free. With her job and life on the line, Sawyer, with help from Mason, is relentless in her pursuit of justice.

This novel ticked all the boxes that a thriller should have: intrigue, mystery, romance, and a massive plot twist. Where the River Runs Red by Howard K. Pollack features a strong protagonist in the form of Sawyer. I could relate to her drive and focus to free her brother. If I were in trouble, I would wish for a sister like Sawyer. The supporting characters made the story so exciting, pulling me further into the plot. However, nothing could have prepared me for the ending. This is a fast-paced thriller and I like the way Pollack went directly to the action without drawing it out. I highly recommend this book to fans of thriller, crime, and mystery novels.
