Where You Lead is an adventure mystery novel for young adults written by Leslea Wahl. Eve was a somewhat typical high school sophomore who suddenly found herself confronted by something so strange that it made her wonder if she had something physically wrong with her or had been hallucinating. She had dreamed about a boy named Nick, but it was so much more than a dream. She knew him nearly as well as she knew herself. The school nurse was spectacularly unhelpful as was the school’s guidance counselor. Then Eve thought to speak with Father Romero about it. He was getting on in years, and they didn’t seem to have much in common, but going to confession with him had always been a positive, supportive thing. He had never been judgmental, and Eve figured he’d be the same way now.
Leslea Wahl’s adventure mystery novel for young adults, Where You Lead, is an exciting and fast-paced story about a professor’s daughter from Albuquerque, New Mexico, and a Senator’s son from Washington, DC, who meet through her vision and find themselves on the hunt for Confederate gold. Watching as they tour the grand sites of the nation’s capital and hunt for clues is great fun. Wahl’s characters are well defined and credible, and her plot is intricately woven and very clever. While Eve and Nick are Catholics and God is a focal point of the story, this mystery/adventure/coming of age novel can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of their religious affiliation or lack thereof. Where You Lead by Leslea Wahl is most highly recommended.
