Why You Should Never Have Children by DJ Dean is a bold, honest take on what parenting is really like. It skips the sugarcoating and gets straight to the tough parts, breaking through all the usual 'having kids is the best thing ever' talk you might be hearing everywhere. Instead of pushing the idea that having kids is the natural next step in life, Dean lays out all the reasons why staying childfree might actually be the better option. The book lists the many struggles of parenting and it also makes a strong case for why choosing not to have kids can lead to more freedom, happiness, and a life that truly feels like your own. With sharp humor and real-life stories, Dean challenges the idea that everyone should want children and gives a fresh perspective for anyone questioning if that path is really right for them.
DJ Dean’s writing is direct, funny, and completely unapologetic, which made me rethink a lot of things I had always just accepted as true. Even though the topic is serious, the humor keeps it engaging, and the arguments are laid out in a way that makes total sense without ever feeling pushy. One of the things I liked most was how the book isn’t just about why parenting is tough, because it also gives real advice on how to build a fulfilling life without kids. Dean also does a great job of tackling the pressures people face, like family expectations and the whole 'biological clock' idea, but it's done in a way that feels both thoughtful and reassuring. There’s solid research behind everything, so it doesn’t just feel like personal opinion when it’s backed up with facts. Overall, Why You Should Never Have Children is an eye-opening and important read for anyone thinking about what they really want in life and I would definitely recommend it.
