Window of Lies by Lilly Collins is an intriguing novella that blends women’s fiction, psychological thriller, and crime mystery. Sarah Hill wakes up from a dream of running with a baby on her back. It has been a year since she moved out of her mom’s place to an apartment. After six years of waiting tables in a cafe, Sarah remembers her art teacher's advice to make good use of her talent for painting and decides to open her own craft shop. On the opening day, an attractive middle-aged man pops into the shop. Soon, Sarah learns his name is Callan and finds herself involved in the arrangements he is making to propose to his girlfriend. Will Sarah succeed with her shop? What lies ahead for Sarah and Callan?
Lilly Collins' Window of Lies is one of those rare stories that riveted me to the point of reading it all in one sitting. I was very impressed with the high quality of storytelling, which I hardly ever find in debut fiction. I liked the plot's intriguing time pivots and twists and the thoroughly developed, relatable characters whose blend of virtues and vices made me struggle to place them on one end of the good-or-bad scale. I also appreciated how the story highlighted social issues, like the high cost of living, mental health, friendship, and breach of trust. But what I liked most of all was the heartwarming kindness, love, and resilience that pervaded the story. This fascinating novella will appeal to women’s fiction, psychological thriller, and crime fiction fans.
