It was Terry Chase’s seemingly shy blue eyes that first caught Lea Sinclair’s attention. He came across as a kind man who laughed as if he did not quite believe he deserved to, but had a thoughtfulness that left an impression on her. Unfortunately, Lea soon realized there was something more to him than his seemingly harmless personality. In the two years of their relationship, she watched those eyes slowly become frosty. She was his new addiction, and he would not let her go. Over time, his behavior escalated into unwanted stalking and a persistent disregard for her boundaries. Left with little choice, she files a restraining order against him, and during the investigation, Terry’s hidden past of alcohol-fueled behavior and assault surfaces. Lea needs to get away for her peace of mind, but that only drives Terry’s obsession with her to another level. What inner strength will Lea draw upon to break free from him? Read Linda S. Fifer’s Winter’s Turn to find out!
Winter’s Turn captures Lea’s complicated and toxic relationship with Terry Chase and her path to healing and stability. One of the best features of this book is that the author doesn’t treat stalking as a plot device but shows it as the prolonged, valid trauma that it is. The plot stands out for its authenticity, and the unflinching narrative is what makes the story even more compelling to read. Lea’s emotions, experiences, and insight feel honest and deeply lived. To me, it doesn’t just tell a story. It also teaches that inner strength isn’t about being unbreakable but about rising again, changed but not defeated. I was able to glimpse not only the main character’s point of view but also Terry Chase's thought process as well. Viewing the story through his perspective highlighted the gravity of his actions and somehow made them more impactful. There’s something incredibly realistic about Linda S. Fifer’s writing. The author confronts difficult truths and sends a powerful message of resilience, bravery, and healing to those who need it.
