Stacy Schaffer, MA, LPC, is the author of With Love from a Children's Therapist. Throughout her early years, Schaffer learned not to trust adults, as a close relative had sexually abused her, and her mother did not protect or even believe her. Schaffer endured torture, malnourishment, and horrific abuse. For many years, she thought that no one would truly love her if they knew about the abuse she suffered. Thus, she remained silent. All the unhealthy coping strategies she developed in early childhood made her hide and mask her internal turmoil even more as a young adult. However, due to the support of a refuge community, she finally felt safe enough to reveal her painful reality. In this book, Schaffer shares her recovery, ongoing healing process, and the lessons she has learned from working with children, teens, and young adults.

With Love from a Children's Therapist by Stacy Schaffer, MA, LPC, is a must-read. It's a powerful, urgent, and necessary book. Schaffer better equips parents to support and help hurting kids deal with issues in real time and develop healthy coping strategies so they do not endure a lifetime of suffering. This essential book helps us understand that, as a society, we must cultivate better mental health support for younger generations by creating safe spaces, opportunities, and nonjudgmental contexts for them to share their burdens and feel heard, seen, respected, and understood. I highly recommend it, as it makes us aware of why many young adults fear talking about their trauma. The book touches on why having a good therapist is not enough to navigate the mental health challenges young adults go through today in this modern world.
