Woman of Honorable Distinction: Lessons from Lydia by S.A. Foster is a wonderful book. The author goes beyond the Old Testament and pulls out another virtuous woman who is adorned honorable, named Lydia. From there the author demonstrates the characteristics that make this woman of the Bible stand out, and uses those qualities as a blueprint to create a highly motivating book on a woman of distinction.
The book is geared toward women seeking a higher quality of life, beyond physical needs. This book focuses on the spirit. This book helps women to see their special place with God and to fulfill their divine purpose. The author is very knowledgeable on the Bible and uses scriptures to pull out valuable points. I love how she used the Apostle Paul to home in on biblical truths. This allows the reader to see the Bible in a different light. In a later chapter, the author says, 'To be a woman of honorable distinction you have to let go and let God take control of your life.' Even though this book is written with women in mind, this statement is profound. When we let go and let God, we allow Him to mold and lead us the way He choose. He alone knows what is best for us, and He has created a place designed to display His glory in our lives.
After a brief study of the life of the Apostle Paul, the author goes into the particular characteristics that set Lydia apart and that can be applied to the life of readers. To see someone walk in such a way as Lydia helps to plant the seed of hope. The overall feel of the book is empowerment to become the individual God calls you to be. Each lesson learned within the book is easy to digest and adds to one's life. This method transforms hope into a tangible manifestation of faith. Women of all ages will benefit from such an inspiring, motivational, powerful read on the aspects of being an honorable, distinctive woman that wears the crown of humility.
