You Can't Make This Shit Up (True Stories of Life's Crazy Adventures) by Lauren Panobianco is a non-fiction memoir on the life adventures of the author, Lauren Panobianco. This is a book that would appeal most to a mixed audience of mature young adults and adults who enjoy real life stories with a good amount of humor mixed in. This book is written as series of short stories that all come from Lauren Panobianco‘s own life. The stories all vary in length, but all share a common theme of humor, shock, and amusement. In Lauren Panobianco‘s own words, this book is filled with many “only you, Lauren” moments and a bunch of “crazy shit.”

I decided to read You Can't Make This Shit Up by Lauren Panobianco because I was looking for something light hearted to lift my spirits and make me laugh. This book most definitely fitted the bill as it had me laughing so hard I was crying. Besides being filled with laughs, this book was surprisingly good at reminding me that crazy stuff happens to everyone and that it is not just me that gets into situations that have those close to me shaking their heads. I felt like I could really empathize with Lauren Panobianco and understand her as a person and as a character in her book. I liked the casual and laid back writing style she used, as well as the fact that she ended each chapter with an explanation of what she had learned from each situation she found herself in. Overall, I feel inspired by Lauren Panobianco’s attitude towards life and I plan to try to adopt it for myself!
