In Young Robin Hood, Connlyn Sinclair presents twenty English and Scottish fairy tales written by an American professor, Francis James Child, in the 1800s. A prince's squire, falsely accused of theft, prepares to duel his nemesis with a magical sword. A brave knight sneaks into the castle of the Elf King to rescue his true love. On his way to school, a young boy must use his wits to outmaneuver the false knight in his path. Two sisters fight over the affections of the handsome squire in town. An old fairy helps reunite an adventure-loving knight with the princess from a faraway land. A benevolent king helps a young woman break the curse of her stepmother. Forced to live in the woods, Robin Hood's parents finally get the chance to return home to Scotland.
Full of whimsy and wonder, Young Robin Hood is a captivating collection of children's short stories. Inspired by Scottish and English folklore, author Connlyn Sinclair does a fantastic job of retelling the tales of Francis James Child. Adorned with mesmerizing artwork by Bobbie Lyn Powell, this collection is bound to catch the eyes of young fantasy readers. If stories featuring courageous knights, beautiful princesses, scheming villains, and magical fairies tickle your fancy, you will absolutely love this book. Despite the short length of these tales, you feel completely immersed in the narratives and find yourself rooting for your favorite heroes to overcome their challenges. Apart from the stories themselves, I loved the humor and tone of this collection. I highly recommend this book to children, especially preteens and younger, and even those older readers who still feel young at heart!
