You're Truly One of a Kind is a children's book written by Sonali Patodia and illustrated by Vanessa Alexandre. Krishna is quite concerned that he looks so different from Radha after catching a glimpse of his reflection in the water. Radha explains that we all have unique behaviors that balance each other, whether amongst people or different types of animals. Some have long hair, some are bald, some are tall, and others are short. The same can be said of our clothes, in style or color. Although differences make us unique, the important thing in life is that we accept each other for who we are, not for the color of our skin or the fact that someone doesn't fit the status quo. Every life on the planet matters, regardless of what you or others look like.

Sonali Patodia's peaceful tale of difference and similarity in life, enhanced by Vanessa's wonderfully bright illustrations, shows that we balance each other through our differences. It also introduces us to factual aspects of the Hindu culture. It is a brilliant story, teaching us that being different is okay. Too often, people are unfairly judged on the fact that they are not at all what we might be used to. You're Truly One of a Kind shows us that we should show acceptance to the different people who walk this planet, regardless of their height, color, amount of hair, and faith beliefs. As long as we are all good to each other, that is all that matters. Children will smile as they learn about our differences and will also remember them. I recommend this book be stocked in all good bookstores, schools, and home libraries so that the younger generation can learn kindness and acceptance of others.
