Youth of Planet Earth Are Rising is the sequel to Ben Storm's Youth of Planet Earth: Arise. It's been a year since Sean Dempsey and his family moved to the village of Eastport, Pennsylvania. Sean is a senior at Eastport High and has taken an avid interest in author Ben Storm's inspiring new book, which advocates forming youth groups to tackle societal and political issues. He joins his best friend, Benji Edwards, and some of his other schoolmates to form the Eastport Youth Activists Corps (EYAC) to inform the public about the workings and attitudes of their government officials. However, after Benji's investigations into Senator Ray Jackson's election campaign put him in danger, Sean and his fellow EYAC members must continue their mission to save the planet.
Youth of Planet Earth Are Rising is a timely novel by Ben Storm. It features inspiring characters who entertain you while highlighting the importance of the youth in solving the issues that affect humanity at large. The book is paced nicely. The plot has a few surprises in store that will pull the rug out from under your feet when you're least expecting it. The social issues aside, it's an absorbing story as well. The main characters, Sean, Benji, and the rest of their friends, are likable people fighting for a just cause. It's easy to root for them, and the stakes always felt real and costly. There is a twist toward the middle that will shock most readers. All in all, it's a novel that I'll recommend to both young adults and older readers.
